近日，有網友發現“abandon”在《牛津平裝本同義詞庫》不是第一個單詞了，第一個單詞變成了“aback”，不少網友直呼：“我的青春結束了！”

“aback”意為“向后；向后地”，不少網友調侃道：“一個放棄，一個后退，果然英文學習不適合我！”

為啥詞典開頭總是“abandon”？

世界上第一本英語詞典于1604年由羅伯特·考得里（Robert Cawdrey)編撰而成，起名為“字母順序單詞表”，到今天僅存世一本。打開看到第一個單詞，是“abandon”。

“abandon”解釋為“放棄；中止”，于是大家紛紛自嘲：這哪里是詞匯書，明明就是預言書！我懂了，叫我們一開始就學會放棄，世上無難事，只要肯“abandon”。

言歸正傳，詞典編撰者可沒有讓大家放棄的想法，“abandon”排在第一位，除了延續傳統，也是出于按照單詞的組成字母順序來排列的考慮。“abandon”此詞在十四世紀末期產生，其來源是拉丁語的“ad”，意為“處于”和“bannum”，意為“宣告、命令、禁止”，組合在一起演變成法語中的“abandonner”，最后才成為我們今天看到的“abandon”。“abandon”還有什么含義？
